Gift shopping, holiday baking and tree trimming don’t leave much time for dinner preparing. Not a problem if you live in Wedgewood Forest. From Lake Conroe to The Woodlands and beyond, our residents have access to more dining options than your favorite food delivery app. Here’s a list of our favorite local eateries:

Pacific Yard House

The historic Sparkle Ice building has been downtown Conroe’s hottest restaurant and music venue since 2017. The restaurant features a large dining room, bar and outdoor patio where diners can enjoy more than 30 beers on tap and an enormous menu with appetizers, sandwiches, salads and steaks. Local bands are in the house Thursday through Saturday nights.

The Red Brick Tavern

Serving up award-winning pizzas, tavern soups and inventive main dishes, The Red Brick Tavern is upscale country food at its best. Local favorites include “Drunkin’ French Onion” soup, BBQ gourmet meatloaf sandwich, pulled pork enchiladas and bacon-fried gulf oysters. Live music is a staple and can be enjoyed with craft cocktails and local brews. Not to be missed is the Sunday brunch.

The Corner Pub

Conroe’s favorite live music destination is also a great place to dine. The menu runs to deli favorites such as BLTs and Italian subs. All meals are accompanied by live blues, jazz, acoustic guitar music and more six days per week.

Pie in the Sky Pie Co.

Who says you can’t have pie for breakfast? Certainly not the folks at this beloved Conroe bakery/restaurant. Choose your favorite slice of pie and they will throw it on the waffle iron for you. If you’re in the mood for something a little more substantial, they can fix you up a plate loaded with omelets, quiche, sandwiches, salads and more. Don’t skip dessert, their dreamy treats are more than just pie in the sky.

Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish

Family owned and operated since 1984, this eatery specializes in Southern cooking and hospitality. Dine on grilled or fried catfish, shrimp, oysters and even frog legs served up with fried green tomatoes, rice with gravy and other down-home sides. Chicken-fried rib eye and quail entice those not inclined to seafood. For dessert, you have to try Vernon’s famous Good Pie.

Fajita Jack’s

A day on Lake Conroe is not complete without a stop at Fajita Jack’s. The popular Tex-Mex eatery can be accessed by land or by sea. Either way, you’ll get the gorgeous views of Lake Conroe. Sip a mango margarita before digging into their signature fajita dishes.

Ransom’s Steakhouse & Saloon

The freshest beef around is found at Ransom’s. Menu items are sourced locally from cattle raised without hormones and antibiotics right here in Montgomery County. Whatever you order is sure to be delicious, but we would be remiss if we did not direct your attention to their homegrown steak special. The every-changing roster of cuts has been known to feature Wagyu rib eye and Kansas City strip steak. Not a meat eater? They’ve got a black bean burger with your name on it.

Cozy Grape Wine Bar & Bistro

Need a cozy, romantic date night spot? This wine bar has great food and even better drinks. Start with caramelized apple and bleu cheese crostini accompanied by a glass of Haymaker sauvignon blanc. Follow it up with jalapeno kielbasa red beans & rice or pork tenderloin with whiskey apple sauce. Both go great with a Terra D’oro red zinfandel. Craft cocktails and craft beer are also available.

Thanksgiving is when we take time to feel grateful for the positive things in our lives. At Wedgewood Forest, we have many things to be thankful for. We thought we would share the top five with you.

Plenty to See and Do

Not every master-planned community is lucky enough to offer residents a great location. Our residents can easily get to employers along the Energy Corridor and The Woodlands via Interstate 45. Beautiful Lane Conroe is minutes away from Wedgewood Forest so nature lovers can spend weekends enjoying their favorite activities. The Woodlands’ premier shopping, dining and entertainment options are just 15 minutes away. Natural amenities and big city fun? It’s like having your cake and eating it, too.

Innovative Builders That Work for You

Having a place to come home to is high on the list of things to be thankful for. We are grateful that Colina Homes and DH Homes build in our community. Their innovative approach to homebuilding makes it easy for buyers to attain their dream homes. Homes are charming, modern and full of features that help build a lifetime of memories. Each builder offers a range of semi-customizable floor plans, allowing you to tailor your home to meet your family’s needs.

The Great Outdoors

The beauty of nature is something everyone can appreciate and be grateful for. Our community is enveloped in it. Nestled among lofty pines, Wedgewood Forest is a peaceful oasis where you can amble along Turtle Creek or picnic in Butterfly Park. Trails lead you to a nature-themed playground kids never want to leave. The Wedgewood Cove Fish Camp is a spectacular place for a family outing where you can see who can catch (and release) the biggest fish, bask in the shade of a covered deck or simply enjoy the breeze coming off the lake.

Teachers That Nurture

A good teacher can inspire children to achieve more than they ever thought they could. Setting Wedgewood Forest students up for future success is a cadre of excellent teachers. Our community is zoned to schools in the Conroe ISD, and Niche.com recently awarded the district an overall A rating and noted that its teachers were among the top 10 in the Houston area. Private school teachers also have a reputation for nurturing academic excellence, and there are many located near Wedgewood Forest.

Our Community

What would we do without the support of family and friends? At Wedgewood Forest, we are grateful for our residents. They have built a tightly knit community of friends that have become family. Each day we laugh together, celebrate each other’s achievements and lend a helping hand when needed. We can’t think of better place to put down roots.

Looking to raise a glass? Skip the local cocktail bar and head out to one of North Houston’s many breweries or wineries. They are award-winning, acclaimed and delicious. They are also less than 30 minutes away from Wedgewood Forest.

Breweries

Southern Star Brewing Co.

Looking for a bombshell beer? Then you will want to tap into Southern Star. The first Texas brewery to put craft beer in a can is also home to beer aficionados’ favorite “Bombshell Blonde” pale ale. The brewery is very dog- and child-friendly with a Biergarten and a disc golf course. There is live music most Friday nights. You can check out their beer line up here.

Copperhead Brewery

Don’t worry and get “hoppy” at Copperhead Brewery. Their signature Striker IPA took the gold for Best in Show at the Wild West Brew Fest. You can go a little darker with their Black Venom Imperial Stout or dive into their fruity Cherry Medusa. Their covered outdoor patio boasts a pool table, a ping pong table, giant Jenga and tournament foosball table. Check out their beer list.

B-52 Brewing Company

More than 20 unique beers on tap, an air-conditioned tap room and a weekly trivia night? Yes, please. B-52 is a special place where traditional ales and stouts peacefully co-exist with more experimental flavors like the Galveston Ocean Water sour (tastes like blue raspberries and coconuts). There is an expansive back patio and a lawn set up with games like giant Jenga and a cornhole toss. It’s kid- and leashed dog-friendly. Check out what’s on tap at the Indoor Taproom and Patio Bar.

Fass Brewing Co.

New on the Conroe brewery scene is Fass. Due to open later this year, the brewery is located in the historic Gentry Building in downtown Conroe. The taproom will feature custom millwork and the beer will be served directly from five-barrel serving tanks behind the bar. Learn more on the Fass Brewing Co. Facebook page.

Wineries

BE Winery

James Barber left his career in law enforcement to pursue his dream of opening a winery in 2017. Today, BE boasts two locations and Barber fills thousands of bottles of his award-winning vintages each year. The Main Winery is nestled beneath Texas pines and offers indoor and outdoor seating. The Downtown Tasting Room located “on the square” in Conroe offers an upscale urban-meets-country winery feel. Both locations host special events.

The Ferm Meadery

Think mead is only for Vikings? Think again. The Ferm is an upscale “meadery” you won’t want to miss. Mead at its simplest is honey wine, but owners Mike and Cathy Rape add complexity with fruits, hops or spices. They have several varieties on tap in their tasting room.

Whitley Vineyards Wine Bar

Whitley started as a dream and a 1/3-acre vineyard in Gina Whitley’s backyard. With help from her family, she turned that dream into reality. The wine bar hosts live music and karaoke Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Bernhardt Winery

Wine, live music and artisanal markets — not to mention a great bed-and-breakfast — welcome guests to this 20-acre estate in Plantersville. The Sunday Lawn Concert series is a favorite with North Houston residents, followed by the winery’s tasting tours.
